Annual inspection
If you own a lift or jack, you can perform a basic inspection for yourself.  Things to look for include the following: corrosion, loose mountings, leaking joints, damage to various parts including the catalytic converter, muffler, pipes, and other exhaust components.  Immediately after bottoming out from a pothole or running into road debris, be sure to check your exhaust system.  Don’t wait!

Keep windows cracked open
Carbon monoxide can build up in the cabin of your car without warning.  It travels, unseen, throughout the vehicle and by the time you realize it, it’s too late.  You can’t see it and by the time you realize its effects, it may be too late.  By slightly opening your window, gathering poisons will escape the interior of your car; this is especially important if you are stuck in traffic.

Open up the garage door

Allowing your car to continuously run inside your garage is also very dangerous.  Fumes consisting of carbon monoxide will quickly build up.  These fumes could potentially spread throughout your home.  If you are going to run your car in the garage, remember to ventilate the garage by opening the garage door.  Keep the door from the garage to the rest of the house closed when your car is running.
